The chart combines monthly precipitation (mm, left axis) and mean monthly temperature (°C, right axis) on a P = 2T scale: a month is dry when the temperature lies above the precipitation. For the current year, only the available months are shown.

Frequently asked questions

How do I create the Gaussen diagram of my site?

Click a point on the map, choose the year, then press "Generate Gaussen diagram". In under a minute the chart combines monthly precipitation (bars) and the temperature curve, with the dry and wet periods coloured.

What does the relation P = 2T mean?

According to the Bagnouls–Gaussen criterion, a month is dry when its precipitation total P (mm) is lower than twice its mean temperature T (°C). The precipitation scale is therefore drawn at twice the temperature scale: the month is dry when the temperature curve lies above the bars.

What happens if I choose the current year?

Only the available months are shown. The last incomplete month appears with a hollow marker and is classified neither dry nor wet, since its total is partial.

Is the platform free?

Generation, preview and customization are free. The watermark-free PNG and the Word report require an approved order (5 image downloads per order; the report is free for the holder of an approved order).

What is the data source?

ERA5-Land reanalysis (Copernicus / ECMWF): mean air temperature at 2 m and daily precipitation totals, available since 1950 via Open-Meteo.
